Artist's Statement

Catherine Dixon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree With Distinction in Philosophy from the University of Colorado. She has studied art in England and America with artists whose work she particularly admires.

Catherine Dixon's abstractions, both in paintings and in monotypes, reflect her fascination with the mystical and archetypal. As a philosopher, she has long been interested in Aesthetics, Art History, Jungian Psychology, and spirituality. Her early art training was in landscape and still life, but Ms. Dixon is working now strictly with abstraction. She believes it is more challenging intellectually than portraying reality-based imagery. Abstract art also affords the viewer a more active role in the aesthetic experience. Each person brings something unique to their interpretation. Although primarily a painter, Ms. Dixon is an award winning printmaker as well. Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the US and Europe. She also teaches and lectures on her nurturing approach to creativity and healing on all levels.

"I believe that art should make you dream. My goal is not to reproduce what can be seen with the eyes; rather it is to open the door to inner truths, to enhance the life of the spirit, the life of the soul. Such art goes beyond the boundaries of language, culture, and material reality just as music does. That transcendent and generous quality which acknowledges our interconnectedness is what I try to achieve when I bring impulse to form."
